We understand that personal obligations or emergencies may cause a teacher to cancel a class on occasion. However, please understand that last minute cancellations impact the health of FLP, both financially and organizationally. To the greatest extent possible, we request that teachers communicate anticipated absences during the hiring process or prior to class costs being established by SP&R so those costs can be calculated accordingly.
If you realize the night before or the morning of class that you will be unable to teach that day, please post an announcement to the Google group as soon as possible so that the information reaches parents well in advance of the class time. Additionally, please contact the staff at Southwest Teen Life Center immediately so that they can handle details regarding payroll, class refunds and notifying families of the cancellation.
Should you need to be absent on a single class day, depending on the class, it is possible that another teacher already in the SP&R system may be qualified and available to substitute. With enough notice, the Steering Committee may be able to identify an appropriate back-up and obtain approval from SP&R to have him/her teach that day. If you foresee a day in which you will be absent, please contact a member of the Steering Committee as early as possible. If a substitute is not available, the class will need to be cancelled for that day.
If you cannot fulfill your commitment to teach your class for some unforeseen reason, it is possible that another teacher already in the SP&R system may be qualified and available to take over the class for the remainder of the session. If you need to withdraw before the class session begins, or at any time during the session, please contact a member of the Steering Committee and ARC staff as soon as possible.
