3-dimensional collage. Cutting, gluing, rubbing, writing, drawing, layering, scraping, layering some more…and more and more! This project will involve imagining or thinking of a theme and using old magazines, different papers, and surface treatments to create 3-D collages. Using scissors, we will cut out shapes carefully and layer and layer, with adhesives and paint. Pencil, charcoal and erasers will be offered, as well, to then rub the paper surfaces between layers, add writing, if desired and build up the surface with unique textures. We may incorporate shredded papers, grasses, bark and other textured materials as parts of the design. “Building” a collage like this allows for exploration and some mystery as the piece evolves. We will talk about and look at examples of other artists who work in collage and all of the variety that goes into creating with this medium.
