Sayuri was born in Tokyo, Japan. She started playing piano at age 3. After high school, she came to the United States to study at the New England Conservatory. She studied with Gabriel Chodos for her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She studied with Patricia Zander for her Master of Music degree. She worked at Boston Higashi School, for autistic children, and then moved to Maryland to start her Doctor of Music Performance at the University of Maryland. She was a co-founder of the Crosswinds Chamber Music Group and helped to start a high school chamber music program in Annapolis. Sayuri has been teaching students since she was in high school to help her mom with her students. When she moved to Boston for undergraduate studies she continued to teach private students. In Boston, she also served as the music director in a church. She helped a high school in Maryland to develop their drama program, and she continued to serve as a church music director. She has taught as the general music teacher in elementary schools for 10 years in Maryland, and for 8 years in Seattle. She currently lives in West Seattle with her family, and is the director and owner of Creative Minds Music Studio.

class description

Students will learn to sing a variety of songs, and learn how to read music. We will explore how to make music with recorders. We will create simple compositions, and perform for an audience.

Students should be practicing at least 5 days a week of what they learned in the class and what I asked them to practice.
